Pilots hired by regional carrier GoJet are guaranteed an interview with air freight company Atlas Air after one or two years of employment. UPS announced it will establish a facility at Turkey's Istanbul New Airport, which is scheduled to open for air traffic on Oct. 29. The facility will be four times the size of the UPS operation at Istanbul Ataturk International Airport.
American Airlines and Los Angeles' Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum on Monday unveiled a food truck made from a converted WWII DC-3 aircraft fuselage. Called the "DC-3 Gourmet," the truck features a kitchen and an intact cockpit that diners can visit.
Last year, AOPA rolled out a curriculum for ninth-graders that incorporates aviation into the study of science, technology, engineering and math. More than two dozen teachers who used the curriculum are looking forward to implementing the newly released 10th grade courses.
The Garmin Pilot app will be able to receive FIS-B weather products when they become available through the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast ground station network. Garmin ADS-B products that can receive the new information include the GTX 345, GDL 88, GDL 84, GDL 52, GDL 50, GDL 39 3D and GDL 39.
Tibet's Lhasa Snow Eagle General Aviation Co. is hiring impoverished students and providing them with free instruction on how to fly helicopters. "So far 15 pilots and maintenance workers have finished training and started work," said Lyu Yong, company chairman of Ruoer General Aviation Development Group, which is partnering with the Lhasa city government on the venture.
A man who was late for his United Airlines flight at Los Angeles International Airport attempted to board the aircraft anyway and was stopped by employees. Airport police arrested the man and charged him with trespassing.
